Labeled “the Queen of Sophisticated Soul” by music industry leaders, Candace delivers a sophisticated and vocally soulful recording with “Nothing Better”, proving the title is well deserved. When asked about what went into creating “Nothing Better” Candace states “This song was written in memory of a friend who died and left behind five young children. He was a truck driver trying his best to provide for his family and for himself, but it brought on a lot of stress physically and emotionally resulting in a tragic accident ending his life.” Candace goes on to say “So I asked myself what is more important, stressing oneself over financial responsibilities or staying alive and working through problems together to relieve one’s stress? Candace goes on to say “This song talks about the simple things, a smile, beauty in life, just being together. No money or material things will replace love, there’s Nothing Better than love.” (AKA “Crist’ian E”) “Corner Girls”“Dare to live free?” That’s the common question International artist, ASHA! swavez x sb quan
Swavez’s hip-hop DNA is comprised of the explosiveness of Tupac, the fearlessness of Shawty Lo and the lyrical acumen of Cyhi the Prynce. Not only is he good in any hood as the voice of the streets, he can also out-spit any topnotch MC and has the vocal chops of an r&b heartthrob. Hailing from Hollywood Road on Atlanta’s Westside and off of the infamous stretch of highway formerly known as Bankhead, the 22 year-old lyrical wizard snaps on tracks like he’s got something to prove. And he does. He’s showcased his talents on multiple stages over the years, including opening for 2 Chainz protégé Skooly (Rich Kidz) and he’s primed for his solo spotlight.
While his neighborhood was riddled with crime and the usual inner city savagery, Swavez steered clear of becoming a statistic by learning from other people’s mistakes. He witnessed and quickly comprehended the outcome of being about that life and made a conscious effort to focus on his passions and turn his pain into profit through the art form of rap. His love for music was a welcomed distraction from the day-to-day challenges he endured growing up in the hood. In middle school he and several friends would bang on lockers, desks, tables and chairs using their hands or a pencil to improvise beats they could freestyle to. Receiving encouragement from their classmates, the young boys formed a group and recorded a hit record that went viral. However, their crew disbanded shortly thereafter, but Swavez continued on as a solo artist. For him rapping was more than a hobby, it was his world.
At one point in his young teens, he arrived at a crossroads where he considered taking the perceived easy route to success by hustling. It was at Carver School of the Arts that he received the guidance of a supportive and resourceful teacher who connected him with other serious young creatives. Swavez got re-focused and flourished in every way, even becoming a straight A student. That hunger to win led him to a chance studio encounter with the CEO of BNB Entertainment who reluctantly listened to the rapper freestyle. Needless to say his talents were so impressive he was offered a record deal on the spot. One of his not so secret weapons is his imaginative wordplay; he paints stories with cinematic attention to detail that brings his rhymes to life.
With several projects already under his entrepreneurial belt, Swavez is looking to revolutionize the industry and influence multiple genres.
SB Quan Bio-
Born into struggle, BNB Entertainment hip-hop artist Quan was raised primarily by his father on the notorious Westside of Atlanta where violence, guns, drugs and hard times were a way of life. However he managed to wiggle through the systemic maze during his early childhood by traveling back and forth to Philadelphia to visit his mother. The only rap sheet the 20 year-old has ever had is the one that contains his poetic lyrics.
Quan grew up submersed in hip-hop. His dad, a former rapper, engineer and producer, had a studio built in their home, which meant music was constantly being created and played. Whenever he was in Philly, his mother exposed him to the sounds of northern MCs leaving an undeniable mark on the impressionable youngster. As a result, he developed a deep appreciation for east coast lyricists while also respecting the pioneers of southern rap. His musical diversity, that includes possessing both a cultural and stylistic edge, has broadened his fanbase and is what separates him from his peers.
Traditional school didn’t stimulate Quan’s active and creative mind; he couldn’t stay focused and would goof off or skip class. He preferred to be playing basketball or recording. Instead, he graduated from a military high school with those collective educational experiences serving as content for his reality-based music.
Quan subscribes to the quality over quantity mentality and thrives on pushing artistic boundaries. He is comfortable leaving his rap comfort zone to successfully parlay his talents into the r&b world by lacing tracks with his harmonious vocal abilities. It was also that same artistic confidence that led him to seek out and forge strong relationships with skilled producers on YouTube who provided him with a variety of melodic and bass-laden tracks. His hard work yielded him to complete and release a 3-song EP entitled I’m The Shit, which garnered critical street praise. From his use of witty metaphors to his intricate rhyme pattern, fresh ad-libs and wide-ranging beat selection, each song stands solid. You can hear the influence of TI (cockiness), Meek Mill (emotion) and Lil Durk (cleverness), however it’s no mistaking that Quan is his own man operating in his own lane in the game.
Whether the subject matter revolves around battles of the heart or in the hood, Quan possesses the characteristics (talent, hustle, unequivocal magic) that future legends are made of.
